From the organizers, Placemaking Canada
Join us for our next ‘open mic’ event – an online opportunity to meet, connect and trade stories with other placemakers and public space advocates across Canada.
This session’s theme is an appropriate one for year-end: the Big Takeaway. It’s about the public space and placemaking lessons of 2024 – and a chance to bring the year to a close with some reflections on the key learnings (or un-learnings), wild wisdom, and radical realizations of the past 12 months.
What’s your Big Takeaway from the past year?
The topic is a broad one and could include one of the following or something else that’s related to the theme.
- A learning from your placemaking and public space work?
- An observation about a project or initiative?
- Something you gleaned from a conference or gathering?
- Scholarly wisdom from one of your classes?
- An experience from your travels or explorations?
- Wise words from a book or article you read?
Of course, there’s lots to talk about – but the task for each speaker will be to pick one key lesson learned, and to share its relevance with the group. So what’s the takeaway, why is it important to you, and what do you think others can learn from this?
Format
Each person that signs up to speak at the open mic will have up to five minutes to share their “Big Takeaway.” A formal presentation isn’t required, but you are free to share pictures or slides if you like.
Share a story!
To sign up for the open mic, email placemaking.canada@gmail.com and let us know what you’d like to talk about. Mark your calendars and get ready to share your Big Takeaway.
About Placemaking Canada
Founded in Montreal in 2015, Placemaking Canada is a volunteer-based network of placemakers and public space advocates from across the country. We work to amplify community-based placemaking matters, and, on a semi-regular basis, provide a forum for practitioners to gather, share stories, and collaborate on building the cross-country placemaking movement.
The organization brings a grassroots, decentralized approach to city-building work – working to link initiatives, amplify local voices, and enrich the Canadian placemaking conversation.
