Victoria loves its “little free libraries” – the homemade book exchange boxes in front of homes, schools and businesses – for good reason. Little free libraries help create an inclusive, inviting public space where neighbours (and strangers) can meet one other to share books, ideas, or just small talk.

Our original blog and map about little free libraries were created by Sarah Rose Robert in March 2015. It’s been our most popular post, so in summer 2016 we updated the map with the volunteer help of Stephanie Ferguson and Teale Phelps Bondaroff of The Idea Tree Consulting and added some features, plus a tool that allows everyone to contribute to keeping it up to date.

On our map, a blue pin indicates a site with a confirmed location and photo. A purple pin is a confirmed location but needs a photo. And a yellow pin is an unconfirmed location – it’s somewhere in that area but we aren’t sure of the exact address or whether it’s still in place. A green pin indicates little free libraries dedicated to plants and seeds.
