On September 20, 2024 (12-5pm) the Greater Victoria Placemaking Network and the Victoria Downtown Residents Association, along with the Invisible Water/Ways project, are collaborating to animate seven parking spaces on Broad Street just south of Pandora Avenue.
SPEAK TO THE CREEK invites all to participate in reclaiming this part of Broad Street for people and placemaking. A temporary parklet encourages passersby to engage with the plants, take a seat, have a pedal-powered smoothie, or make art. Guided walking tours will trace the original creek that once flowed under the street, accompanied by readings of “Broad Street Blues” by Michael Kenyon. Attendees are invited to add their own haiku to a collaborative poem created throughout Park(ing) Day.
Accessibility: curbs, sidewalks, busy or noisy vehicle traffic, wheelchair-accessible, nearby bicycle lock-up available. Seniors welcome, children welcome, people with bicycles welcome, people with wheelchairs or walking aids welcome.
More details will be posted to the Park(ing) Day event page here.
Park(ing) Day is a global, public, participatory project where people across the world temporarily repurpose curbside parking spaces and convert them into public parks and social spaces to advocate for safer, greener, and more equitable streets for people.
Placemaker’s Bonus! Join the Invisible Water/Ways: following ‘Johnson Creek’ walking tour on September 13 (5:30-7pm). Spots are limited and registration is free.
