The night before the big February snow dump, neighbours gathered around our little book box which was magically transformed into a Valentine Gift Box for the big day. People brought all kinds of gifties ; cookies, chocolates, candies, toys, valentine cards and decorations, all for give-away. We made the standard suggestion; take a gift, leave a gift since it’s exciting to see what people decide to share.
People seemed reluctant to leave so we stayed, savouring times before COVID when we could have impromptu chats with each other. The event was topped off with a quick photo, all wearing silly paper smiles, covering a lot of chuckles and smiles underneath those masks.
Although the windy cold finally drove people indoors, we had a great turnout of snow angels the next morning, all beavering away together to shovel snow for the whole block. Playing together, working together; what a great way to cheer ourselves up!
