What does a citizen-led public space and street pop-up look like?
Check it out: here’s a short video of our Cook St Re-Make project, where we worked with The City of Victoria and Greater Victoria Cycling Coalition to demonstrate a “complete street” redesign of a typical Victoria street. In this case, we moved the row of parked vehicles away from the curb (thereby narrowing the existing driving lanes), added a protected bike lane at the curb, added three temporary crosswalks, tested a 3-Way Stop where there previously was a single stop, and hosted a public gathering space on the adjacent park.
We had great fun. What do you think?

Thanks to Miko Betanzo for shooting and editing this video!
Thanks as well to The City of Victoria for funding and staff support, to Greater Victoria Cycling Coalition for volunteer help, and to our own great gang of enthusiastic placemaking volunteers.
