The Current on CBC just broadcast this discussion on defensive architecture. It is important and relevant for us to think about the role of urban design in shaping who is welcome and who is not. The spaces we create are never neutral, and are always ‘for’ a particular use or group of people. Who is being ‘designed against’? And how can we do things better?
