More about the Falaise Crescent Road Mural project:
On Sunday, August 20 volunteers from the Falaise Community Association, the Greater Victoria Placemaking Network, and neighbourhood will be repainting and expanding the road mural on Falaise Crescent, next to Falaise Park, Saanich (just off Royal Oak Drive, north of Broadmead Village).
Members of the media are invited to attend from 10 am onwards, and the team anticipates that the painting will be complete around 2 pm. Refreshments and snacks will be available, courtesy of the Falaise Community Association.
Road murals are murals painted on the surface of the road. In addition to beautifying streets and connecting neighbours, research has found that they encourage drivers to slow down, thereby improving road safety.
The road mural was designed by local artist Desiree Shelly, working in consultation with neighbours, and takes its inspiration from the yellow montane violets that were discovered in Falaise Park. It was installed in August 2022. This year, additional purple camas flowers will be added.
The project was a first for Saanich, and was being installed as a pilot. It has been led by the Falaise Community Association with support from the Greater Victoria Placemaking Network, and received funding from a Community Well‐Being and Placemaking Projects Grant from the District of Saanich.
